Field Trip to Inter-Faith Food Shuttle!

Today I had the opportunity to visit the Inter-Faith Food Shuttle facility in Raleigh.   I went to meet Cindy Sink, Director of Communications, to pick up some flyers for our Holiday Open House goodie bags (their program Backpack Buddies is the beneficiary of the Open House - read more here), and when I got there she asked if I wanted a tour of the facility.  Of course!  Yes I've seen their slogan - We Feed. We teach. We grow. - but I had no idea all the programs they run over there!
Here I am in the area where volunteers fill the backpacks for the  Backpack Buddy Program
Did you know that every morning they have volunteers drive around to different grocery stores to pick up food?  The volunteers then deliver the food back to the facility on Blair Drive where it is sorted.  Meals are then made in the onsite commercial kitchen by people who are going through Inter-Faith Food Shuttle's Culinary Job training - an 11 week program that prepares men and women with severe life challenges for careers in food service.  I also found out that they have a teaching farm off Tryon Road in Cary where volunteers can farm with them. I loved the concept of helping people help themselves.    I had no idea - the volunteering opportunities seemed endless!  If you are looking for a great place to spend some time helping others please check out their website

This "field trip" today made me even more excited about choosing the Inter-Faith Food Shuttle as the receipient of our Holiday Open House charity event! You can tell the passion that this organization has and I'm so glad Swagger is going to be a part of it!  We would love for you to come out to our event on November 1st and Shop for a Cause!  Tickets are $10 in advance or $15 at the door.  Lots of great specials, goodie bags for the first 100 ticket purchasers, and more!

Organica Firepot Fuel Solution

Firepots used to be one of the best selling items at Swagger - before the "firepots blowing up on people" scandal.  I was very sad to see Firepots go away as I LOVED using mine and so did a lot of my friends and our customers.  Well - I am happy to announce that a new company has come out with a completely organic fuel - it is so safe you can DRINK IT!  HA!  That sounds pretty safe to me!

The new fuel is named Organica.  Organica is safe for indoor and outdoor use. Certified by the US Dept of Agriculture (USDA) as 100% Bio-based, Organica has the lowest emissions of any type of fuel. Organica is classified as Non-flammable, can be extinguished with water and burns with hues of blue, orange and yellow.

Organica has two components - the "wick" or media roll and the fuel.  Basically the fuel doesn't work without the "wick" - kind of like how a candles works.  If you pour more fuel on the already lit firepot it will just put the flame out.

Here is a video:

So break out your firepot - it is now safe to use again!!  We are selling the media roll, fuel, and new firepots.  Come by Swagger to check it out!

Fingerprint Event in November!

Friday, Nov. 2 & Saturday, Nov. 3 - Fingerprint Event!

Just what are these "precious metals"?
While a photograph might bend or lose clarity as time takes its toll, a Precious Metal Print can maintain its unique impression for centuries. Crafted individually, in Knoxville Tennessee from fine silver, a Precious Metal Print requires only a single fingerprint to immortalize a friend or loved one. These heirloom quality treasures make wonderful gifts that can be worn in many forms.
A few tips to get set for the Fingerprint Event:

  • A young child's fingerprints may not be developed until they are 18 months old... but a toe makes a great alternate print!
  • Fingerprints vary and some may not make a strong impression.

Ever since we first shared this new line with everyone on Facebook, you all have been calling, emailing, and leaving comments to ask us when these would be available!

We are so excited to announce that on Friday, November 2, from 10:00 a.m. until 5 p.m. and on Saturday, November 3, from 10:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m., we will be holding a very special Fingerprint Event in the store, with great savings and many appointment slots available to book now!
Pricing & Specials
Cufflinks are $130 a pair and pendants are $75. We will be offering discounts for multiple items during this event!
2 item - 5% off
3 items - 10% off
4+ items - 15% off
If you sign up before October 15, you will be entered into a drawing for a free pendant! (Winner will be announced Nov. 1.) Sign up now at SignUpGenius.com!

A little more about the Lotus Survival Foundation:

Lotus Survival Foundation (“LSF”) was founded in April 12 of 2010, and received its 501(c)(3) tax exempt status on May 11, 2010.  LSF was created from Claudia Aguirre’s passion and desire to pay it forward after her battle with breast cancer.  Claudia’s personal experiences have guided her in the process of creating a support program that empowers individuals before, during and in the wake of breast cancer.  For these reasons, the mission of LSF is to promote awareness in recognizing signs and symptoms, to provide education, and to ensure accessibility to available resources for members of vulnerable communities.  LSF’s innovative mentorship program provides emotional support and tools to integrate a holistic approach to healing the mind, body and soul.  LSF’s Vision is to ensure that all minorities and underserved communities have equal access across the continuum of care.

LSF approach to ensure our mission is programs that focus on:

Education. LSF produces live and web-based programs and group discussions for individuals facing cancer, whether personal or as a caregiver. These programs offer up-to-date and reliable information, peer support, and practical coping skills as well as local resources available to these individuals.

Publications. LSF provides free easy-to-read and easy-to-understand information about awareness, knowing your own body, managing side effects and coping with cancer.

Counseling & Support Groups. LSF provides an in person, via the web or via telephone setting where people in similar situations can connect and share thoughts and experiences. We also offer an innovative mind, body and soul program that is led by professionals that provide direct services at all levels of the continuum of care, these include oncologist, surgeons, patient navigators, social workers, nurses and primary care providers. It is also worth mentioning that all of these providers are also cancer survivors.

Financial Counseling. LSF provides guidance to individuals, and their loved-ones, who are struggling with breast cancer to help manage their financial concerns and provides current referrals to organizations and facilities that conduct assessments, determine their immediate needs and provide assistance accordingly.

LSF envisions that all interested individuals are enabled to attend conferences, workshops, retreats and that our web-based educational materials are also accessible to all.
